Do I need a permit for scaffolding UK?

In terms of domestic scaffolding, if the scaffolding will be erected within the boundary of your property then there is no need to obtain a licence or permit. However, if the scaffolding encroaches on a pavement or road, it is necessary to obtain a licence from the local council. Rest assured, this is the responsibility of your scaffolder or builder but it is a good idea to check that they have the correct paperwork. At Sector Scaffolding, we have been designing, erecting and dismantling scaffolding domestically, commercially and industrially for over 30 years and pride ourselves on offering a professional and convenient scaffolding service for our customers.

Can I erect my own scaffolding UK?

The UK government’s scaffolding rules clearly state that all scaffolding, whether domestic or commercial, must be erected, altered and dismantled in a safe manner by a builder or scaffolder that is fully trained and competent. Whatever your scaffolding requirements, Sector Scaffolding offers a health and safety assured scaffolding service for a competitive price.

Is it illegal to work on a roof without scaffolding?

No, it is not illegal to work on a roof without scaffolding. However, scaffolding is necessary for any domestic roof repairs that require more than one man and a safely secured ladder. The number one priority while working on a roof should be health and safety, and a proper risk assessment should be carried out in order to follow regulations, prevent potential dangers and legal problems.

How much is scaffolding per day UK?

Scaffolding prices will vary depending on the nature of the project. Factors that increase the price include the complexity of the project and the length of time that the scaffolding will be needed. What are the 3 types of scaffolds?

The 3 main types of scaffolding are suspended, support and aerial. Supported scaffolding is the type of scaffolding you encounter on a street that is supported from the ground up. This type of scaffolding is typically used for bricklaying and building repairs. Suspended scaffolding is a working platform that’s suspended from a roof using wires, ropes or chains, using pulleys to move up and down the building. This is typically used to access hard to reach areas on a building. Aerial scaffolding combines the two, utilising ground support while also allowing movement up and down a building to reach hard to access areas. Aerial scaffolding adds mobility and flexibility to projects such as window cleaning and skyscrapers.

What is a commercial scaffold?

Commercial scaffold is typically used for projects larger than domestic projects and buildings taller than a house. These projects require a larger workforce and bespoke scaffolding to meet the height requirements and uphold health and safety regulations.

Do you need training to use scaffolding?

Scaffolding should be erected, altered and dismantled by a competent person with training relevant to the type of scaffolding they are working on. If a scaffolder is being trained, they should be supervised by someone who has had the necessary training and is competent to carry out that type of scaffolding. Our scaffolders are highly experienced, have had comprehensive training and are CISRS qualified.

Do I need permission to erect scaffolding?

If the scaffolding will be erected within the boundaries of your property, without encroaching on pavement, road or a neighbouring property, then there is no need to gain permission or a licence. If you require access to a neighbouring property to erect scaffolding, you should ask the owner of the property for permission in advance as they reserve the right to deny access. If the scaffolding encroaches on pavement or road, it will be necessary for your builder or scaffolder to obtain a licence from the local council and you should check they have the correct paperwork.

How often should a scaffold be inspected?

It is a health and safety requirement for all scaffolding to be inspected before its first use and then every 7 days. It should also be inspected every time that it is exposed to substantial alteration or weather conditions that might deteriorate its condition.
